Utilita is a new company launching “do you get it”, its combined gas, electricity, telecoms and energy efficiency service. The service encourages customers to use less energy by installing energy saving gear in their homes. This saves the customer money and benefits the planet – a real win-win scenario.

You will not find Utilita door-stepping or cold calling customers. This underlines the ethical stance of the company. Refreshingly new in this market place and unique in many ways.

Utilita's Chief Executive, David Casale, said: "The potential for the win/win scenario has been there for a long time, we can cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our energy bills at the same time. This is what we mean when we ask the question 'do you get it?', it's not just about being ecological but just plain logical."

"One of the problems is that most people don't see their own input as significant. However, if only some of the 12 million under-insulated homes took this small step the impact would be big. We can set an example for others by getting started at home."

So often we would like to do something about global warming, but don't have the time to sort it out ourselves. Utilita is designed to take that hassle away. The process starts with a free energy survey of the customer’s home, which could deliver immediate value by checking control systems and providing advice.

Utilita is also working to bring the benefits of competition to the less well off and help in the fight against fuel poverty. Energy conservation contributes towards making a decent standard of living affordable.

Notes to Editors:

1. Utilita is the first company to offer an energy services contract, not requiring an additional customer investment or contribution, under Ofgem's trial suspension of the 28 day rule, and the only company to exclusively supply their product in conjunction with low carbon and energy saving measures.

2. The concept of Utilita came from the Energy White Paper, "Our Energy Future - Creating a Low Carbon Economy", 24th February 2003, which set out a broad agenda for tackling the issues of climate change, security of supply and fuel poverty. Using less energy has a key role to play in all of these problems, and Utilita has been designed to maximize fuel savings, thereby reducing their customers' energy bills.

3. The PriceTracker Promise is a guarantee that Utilita will price each of its services to track a Reference Price as follows: Standard British Gas tariff; Standard or Economy 7 tariff from your regional electricity company; and BT Together Option 1.

4. You need a BT line for the telecoms product, customers without a BT line can still take the energy products.

5. Utilita do a free survey of customers’ homes to identify energy saving opportunities, from loft and cavity wall insulation to new control systems and energy-efficient light bulbs.
